Abdominoplasty involves
removal of skin and fat, usually from the lower abdomen with the curved
scar following natural crease lines above the hips. It has many degrees
and variations depending on goals, conditions and preferences.
The abdominal muscles
may be tightened as needed, or even hernias repaired. Suction lipectomy
can be combined in some cases of the abdomen, hips, or elsewhere. Mini-abdominoplasties
can also be done with removal of small amounts of skin and minimal surgery.
Maximum abdominoplasty
for the very large hanging abdomen needs to have skin and fat removed
around the entire torso. The same applies to those with massive weight
loss. The average abdominoplasty is done under general anesthesia, frequently
without hospitalization, and recovery varies with the "degree"
of surgery.
