CoolGlide™ Vantage Laser Technology
Dr. Jervis and his nurse laser specialists, Joanne Winkler,RN, Julia Worner, RN and Linda Browning,RN have become very experienced in the use of the newest CoolGlide™ Vantage ND:YAG laser and pulsed light technology for multiple skin conditions. This current state of the art equipment is effective yet safe for all skin types. No local anesthetic is needed. Rarely some oral sedation could help when treating dilated vessels that require greater energies. Deep wrinkles and extremely sun-damaged skin show only modest improvement using CoolGlide™ technology, and for these conditions or for those wanting dramatic improvement, and do not mind a 1-2 week healing period and at least several months of redness/pinkness and some permanent loss of pigmentation, the CO2 or ERB:YAG laser may be utilized. Because of the above side effects the demand for deeper CO2 laser resurfacing has markedly decreased over the last several years.
CoolGlideLaserGenesis is the function that treats redness, dilated vessels, rosacea, light pigmentation, sun-damaged and roughened skin. It also improves fine wrinkles and reduces pore size by increasing collagen production with a series of treatments (usually 5 or 6) and side effects are minimal, only transitory redness. The face, neck and chest are the most commonly treated areas.
The CoolGlide™ function for Hair Removal (the thicker and darker the better) is also a prime use of this system that requires a series of treatments, as only the hair bulbs in the active growth phase absorb enough of the laser light to be damaged enough to interfere with growth of the hair shaft. Most commonly treated are the face, chest, back and bikini areas.
The CoolGlide™ Excel function is another working mode designed to coagulate fine vessels or capillaries on the face and elsewhere, with diameters up to 1 or 2 millimeters. This mode may cause some bruising, and there may be skin irritation and swelling in some cases. The damaged vessel may slowly fade away, and sometimes multiple treatments are needed for complete eradication. Larger vessels may need sclerotherapy or even surgical removal (varicose veins).
The CoolGlide™ Xeo function is a pulsed light treatment specific for brownish discoloration such as solar lentigos, freckles, and splotchy pigmentation from sun damage.
SkinCeuticals™
A beautiful and therapeutic complement to our laser program is the SkinCeuticals™ skin care product line of sun blocks, gels and cleansers. These corrective skin products are sold exclusively through physician's offices and work hand-in-hand with our new laser enhancements.
Obagi™ Skin Program
This line is also offered for general skin care, and specifically, to improve splotchy pigmentation and even out brown spots, and rough, flaky skin damage. Obagi™ products are usually used with Retin-A, which can cause sun sensitivity, so it is more practical to use in the fall and winter than the summer, however Retin-A can be used year-round with the use of sunblocks and/or sun avoidance. Retin-A or any other Tretinoin may be used independently without the Obagi™ products if pigmentation is not an issue.
